So definitely not a whole food recipe, but this is a great dairy free version of the popular treat. Sweetened condensed coconut milk and dairy free white & chocolate chips were subbed for the original versions.

The traditional graham cracker crust was also updated by using almond flour, coconut sugar, coconut oil and sea salt.

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch square baking pan and line it with parchment paper, allowing for overhang.
  2. Prepare the Almond Flour Crust:
    • In a large bowl, combine 2 cups of almond flour, melted 1/2 cup of coconut oil, 1/2 cup of coconut sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Mix until the mixture is crumbly and evenly combined.
    • Press the almond flour mixture firmly into the bottom of the prepared pan to create an even crust.
  3. Layer the Goodies:
    • Sprinkle 1 cup of vegan chocolate chips and 1 cup of vegan white chocolate chips evenly over the almond flour crust.
  4. Add Shredded Coconut and Crushed Walnuts:
    • Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded coconut and 1 cup of crushed walnuts over the chocolate chips and white chocolate chips. Ensure an even distribution of each topping.
  5. Pour Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk:
    • Evenly pour the can of sweetened condensed coconut milk over the entire mixture, creating a sweet and creamy layer, it’s easier if you use a spatula to spread it out.
  6. Bake to Perfection:
    • Place the baking pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  7. Cool and Slice:
    • Allow the magic squares to cool completely in the baking pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, refrigerate for an hour to firm up the layers.
    • Once fully set, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the magic square slab from the pan. Place it on a cutting board.
  8. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Slice into squares or bars of your desired size and serve these delicious vegan magic squares at room temperature. Share with friends and family who will undoubtedly love them!
